There was a time when midrange smartphones felt easy to identify the moment you picked them up.
The compromises were obvious. Thicker bodies, uneven bezels, cameras that struggled once lighting conditions became less than ideal, and overall devices that constantly reminded you they were built to hit a price point.
After spending a few days with the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G, that gap feels noticeably smaller than before. It became particularly noticeable during everyday use, pulling the phone out while commuting, replying to messages one handed or casually taking quick evening shots without really thinking about it.
What stood out to me immediately was not necessarily one major feature, but how refined the overall experience already feels this early into using the device. From the slimmer profile to the more immersive display and surprisingly polished camera performance, Samsung seems to be focusing heavily on making the A series feel more premium without losing its everyday practicality.
And honestly, that might matter more than adding another headline feature most users will never actually use.
DESIGN & FIRST IMPRESSION
The first thing I noticed was the slimmer body design.
At 6.9mm, the Galaxy A57 5G is noticeably easier to handle compared to many phones that have gradually become bulkier over the years. It feels cleaner in the hand, easier to use one handed and considerably more comfortable during longer periods of usage.
The flatter sides also make the device feel slightly more secure to hold, especially during longer scrolling sessions or when quickly using the camera outdoors.
Samsung has also refined the front of the device with a more seamless looking display and slimmer bezels, giving it a closer resemblance to devices sitting in much higher price categories.
It does not try too hard to look flashy. Instead, the design feels more confident and mature, which honestly suits the direction Samsung has been taking recently.
DISPLAY & DAILY EXPERIENCE
Over the past few days, the Galaxy A57 5G has been less about dramatic “wow” moments and more about consistency.
The display feels immersive enough for long scrolling sessions, watching videos or simply moving between apps throughout the day. Even under Kuala Lumpur’s harsh afternoon lighting, outdoor visibility remained surprisingly comfortable. Combined with the slimmer bezels, the overall viewing experience feels cleaner and far more refined than what many people still expect from a midrange device.
What I appreciate most so far is that Samsung does not appear to be forcing unnecessary gimmicks into the experience. Everything feels familiar, stable and intentional, which becomes increasingly important the longer you use a phone daily. That level of polish is often underestimated until you switch to a device that lacks it.

EARLY CAMERA IMPRESSIONS
Samsung is placing heavy emphasis on Nightography with the Galaxy A57 5G, and while I still need more time for deeper testing, the early results have been surprisingly promising.
Low light shots appear noticeably cleaner than expected, while HDR handling during difficult lighting conditions feels more balanced compared to many devices within the same category.
What stood out most during the first few days was consistency.Street lighting, café interiors and uneven city lighting at night usually expose weaker smartphone cameras fairly quickly, but the Galaxy A57 5G handled those situations better than I initially expected.
It is still too early for a full conclusion, but the camera system feels like one of the more important upgrades this generation.
FINAL THOUGHTS
So far, the Galaxy A57 5G feels less focused on trying to impress people with exaggerated specifications and more focused on refining the everyday smartphone experience.
That may not sound exciting on paper, but in actual day to day usage, it often makes a far bigger difference.
There is still much more testing to be done, especially around the camera system, long term performance and Samsung’s Nightography improvements, but the early experience already suggests this could become one of the more well rounded additions to Samsung’s A series lineup.
And in a market where many phones are trying too hard to stand out, that refinement might actually be what makes the Galaxy A57 5G memorable.
